WHY SHould I whiten my teeth?

Sparkling pearly white teeth are beautiful! White teeth look healthy and give you a youthful appearance. Whitening can also reduce the look of crowded/crooked teeth, but coupled with a short course of teeth straightening can produce dramatic results

With advances in modern teeth whitening technology, beautiful white teeth are, safely and affordably, available to everyone of us!

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening uses dental (medical) grade peroxide to safely and gently remove stains and lighten the colour of the teeth.

Does it Strip enamel?

This is a common myth, and absolutely not. Teeth whitening through your dental professional is safe and will not damage your teeth in any way.

is it painful?

Most people do not get any discomfort at all, but a few can suffer from zingers, tiny electric shock feelings through the teeth from Zoom whitening.

will i get sensitive teeth

Again most people do not get any side effects from teeth whitening, but mild sensitivity to cold for the first couple of days is not uncommon.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Absolutely, a common myth is that whitening strips the enamel. Whitening products provided by STAR dentistry do not do this, and are perfectly safe. Many of our patients whiten their teeth on a daily basis!

HOw much does tooth whitening cost?

Zoom Whitening is on offer at STAR dentistry for $595 (rrp $995), alternatively you can use the take home gels and trays for $350.

I have seen whitening kits on instagram? Why should I whiten my teeth through my dentist?

Although teeth whitening is totally safe, it is important that the teeth and gums are healthy, untreated gum disease and tooth decay can be exacerbated by teeth whitening.

Dental professionals are the only people legally allowed to use the only proven active ingredient, Hydrogen Peroxide, in all professional whitening systems. Don't be fooled by shopping centre clinics, or instagram ads claiming that they use dental products, the ingredients they use, and the results they achieve, are inferior.

Sensitivity is the most common concern for many patients, although this is much less than before due to modern advances, only your dentist can treat this if it does occur.

What are the possible side effects?

The most common side effect of teeth whitening is tooth and gum sensitivity. Your dentist is your best resource to ensure that you are a good candidate for whitening and that you are using the right concentration of whitening formula. Philips Zoom at-home teeth whitening products have two mild desensitizing agents, potassium nitrate and Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), to minimize tooth sensitivity.

What results can I expect?

Whitening results depend on the person, some people get fantastic results after just a short time, others take longer. It is very similar to getting a sun tan, some people tan much quicker than others. You will always get fantastic results in the end though.

How long will my teeth whitening results last?

That’s all dependent on your genetics and habits, but generally around a year. Drinking staining foods such as coffee, red wine, and smoking can limit your results. Regular top ups with the take home kits will keep your teeth shining STAR bright.
